The Anchal Project - Making a Social Impact

Posted by Ashley Marshall on

Now, more than ever before, buyers have tons of options when it comes to purchasing home goods and designing a home. You can find a wide range of items available in any price range pretty much everywhere you look. But purchasing home goods isn't just a simple transaction - by purchasing a company's products, you are supporting their business and their business model. That's why we place such an emphasis on working with vendors who are invested in creating social impact products for the home.

What does this mean exactly? Our vendor, Anchal Project, is a perfect example. Instead of just running a textile and home goods company for profit, the owners set out to create a business model that has a positive impact on the world. Founders Colleen and Maggie Clines were distraught by learning about the extreme oppression women in India faces as commercial sex workers and wanted to build a company that would give women around the world an opportunity to learn a craft and escape this kind of exploitation. Hence, Anchal was born.

Anchal's belief is that design and interdisciplinary collaboration can be the catalyst for positive social change. Their program offers women design and skills training and full-time employment. They provide them with the tools and education necessary to create Artisan products that Anchal then finds a place for in the Marketplace. And we help bring these products to your home.

Your home is an extension of yourself. It's where you spend most of time, whether it's your waking or sleeping hours, or both. That's why it's important to fill your home with stuff that makes you feel good. Filling your space up with items that come from a socially impactful company can make you and your home feel happier and more holistically balanced. Owning Anchal's one-of-a-kind artisanal products will not only beautify your home, but will give you the knowledge that you are contributing to an extremely important cause and bettering the world.

We choose to work only with companies that give back to the world in some way - to make sure we are supporting humanity and the earth by giving our money to vendors that care. It is so important to know where the items you are buying came from, especially if they are living in your sacred home space. Purchasing an Anchal item that uses organic materials and was hand-sewn by workers rescued from an unfit living situation means you, personally, are empowering others and contributing to the sense of wellness in the world.
